BG's site is indeed an inspiration for anyone who is wrestling with the idea of using these tools for teaching.

Since my class is billed as a conversation class, and also since there is now a proven a co-relation between Computer Mediated Conversations and informal spoken conversation patterns in a second language, using blogs in my class was a natural and easy choice. Not to mention the portfolio aspect of the tool (this is what I could do in February...this is what I am doing now in May) Plus, native speakers have "found" us and comment frequently, which is an extraordinary experience in and of itself.

I love your blog, by the way and am so happy to have stumbled upon it. let's keep in touch...it sounds like we have similar passions and interests! i will add you to the LLU blogroll!

Stay in touch!

Hi Barbara! I did link to one of Barbara Ganley's English classes, but not to her personal blog. I mentiond her actually in two of the four talks I gave last week. She's certainly the mother of educational blogging, so I definitely was going to tell people about her. Her ideas about blogging in the classroom have definitely been an inspiration to me.

I love the way you are using blogging in a language class! So great for improving more casual writing and conversation in Spanish (as opposed to the formal writing you'd see in a paper)! Terrific!

Thank you, from my students, for mentioning my HISP 305 class's blogging in your presentation... it has been an extraordinary experience watching my students grow and exceed their own expectations in the Spanish language through the use of these tools. (As I sit here in the computer lab one of my students is using Skype to speak with a native speaker in Mexico while metablogging the experience...and we don't have class until tomorrow...)

I notice you showed some of Barbara Ganley's classes' work but did not mention them in your round up of sites.. please be sure to mention her... she is truly an extraordinary teacher and blogger.

Again...thanks for the mention!

Thank you for your impressions! I left the conference inspired and depressed for the very reasons you describe. It's good to know I wasn't alone.

Oh well, it was great to meet you and all the others out there (too many to mention, but I'll blog it eventually).

Please let me recommend <a href="http://kathryndeiss.pbwiki.com/" rel="nofollow">Kathryn Deiss</a>'s PBWiki page, and the presentations thereon (including her TXLA one, which I attended). She is remarkably smart about this stuff.

A quote in her TXLA presentation that's stuck with me: "Different is not always better -- but better is always different."
