Meredith:

What a great video and introduction to the library. I wish I had that tour when I was a freshman at Norwich. I was lucky to have my work-study job in the library (the old library which is now houses the architecture department) and after my junior year, we moved into the new building. I attended summer school in ‘93 and helped with the gutting of the old library. The new library is such a wonderful asset to the university, and I regret that I only had one year to spend in the new building. Great work- have a wonderful and successful year! - Jakon

Sending the Rooks on a scavenger hunt definitely fed off of their company pride. It was interesting to see the differences between the first tours, when the students had just arrived and didn't know one another, and last groups who had been together as a company for several days and had CLEARLY done some bonding.

This was a great audience for a scavenger hunt. Maybe the freshmen civilian groups could come by dorm for library orientation. (Well, maybe not a whole dorm.)

Hello Meredith,
it is very encouraging to read your report about your new rook tour. We are also changing our general library tours for the new semester because we have the feeling that the students don't learn anything when we are only talking to them. We are thinking about some tasks they have to solve in groups which they present to each other afterwards. But finding a way to get them engaged is not so easy. A scavenger hunt is a really nice idea because the first encounter with the library is actually a fun thing and the first impression counts.
Thank you for this inspiring blogpost!
