That's really great, Michael! I'm glad to see that there are schools that are really pushing the management component of LIS education.

This is interesting. A straw poll of my fellow first-years at the LIS school I attend at Dalhousie University showed that many of us enrolled because the programme is housed in the Faculty of Management. The School does a great job at promoting the importance of sound management and HR as much as they do the basic tenets of IS..

The school also offers several joint degrees. We can double up and earn an MPA/MLIS, MBA/MLIS or even an LL.B/MLIS..

I think it depends on where you get the MPA. My husband (a now-retired former city manager and budget director) has one, and I can tell you it does deal with accounting and finance. Maybe a little less accounting than an MBA, but the finance courses were in governmental finance which is a bit different.

I have an MBA but was able to take courses in governmental finance. My library school did offer two advanced management courses (one focusing on budgeting and HR), but there was a lot of repetition and overlap there for me with an MBA.

What a wonderful survey. As an MBA, MLIS I would recommend an MPA. It deals with management but less accounting and finance. In lieu of those courses you get courses on local politics and grant writing.
