Here&#8217;s to my daughter or son growing up in a world where it won&#8217;t be an amazing accomplishment for an African-American to win the presidency, because s/he&#8217;ll know that anyone is capable of it.

<p>Here&#8217;s to my daughter or son growing up in a world where it won&#8217;t be an amazing accomplishment for an African-American to win the presidency, because s/he&#8217;ll know that <em>anyone</em> is capable of it. </p>
<p>Here&#8217;s to our children having bigger dreams, for themselves and their country.</p>
<p>But while I smile, I know we&#8217;re not out of the woods yet. When I see that <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-gaymarriage6-2008nov06,0,2331815.story">California voters have approved Proposition 8</a>, the ban on same-sex marriage, I know that we still have a long way to go before everyone in America is accorded the same rights and privileges as everyone else. I just hope I can teach my child that difference is what makes our world <em>interesting</em> and that no one is less deserving of things than anyone else. </p>
<p>But this is really a great day, and a great step, towards a  better future for America.</p>
