Staying Informed by Bill Garrity, Dartmouth University

“Being geeky doesn’t make us losers.”

We all have personal requirements for how we get information. Bill doesn’t want to have to go somewhere to find info. He wants it pushed to it.

He designs his browser environment to keep up. He has a tabbed browser and multiple home pages.

He reads Slashdot and Digg a lot to get tech news. He uses NewsGator as his RSS aggregator. He uses it to push e-mail alerts of feeds to him. He is subscribed to 221 feeds (yikes!).

He uses Google alerts to get news alerts on specific topics.

He goes to conferences and reads professional literature as well. He also reads the tech sections of the NYT and WSJ, the MIT Tech Review and Fast Company.
