Over a year ago I wrote about a project called MaintainIT, a three-year Bill and Melinda Gates funded initiative designed to identify best practices for maintaining public access computers. Well, since then, they’ve been awfully busy. In addition to going around the country talking to librarians who maintain computers, they’ve published two cookbooks, which are full of practical information on maintaining public access computers:
- A Cookbook for Small and Rural Libraries (PDF)
Learn about locking down public computers, use a handy maintenance checklist, and more! - Recipes for a 5-Star Library (PDF)
Learn about wireless, print and time management, and laptop checkout programs!
What a wonderful and needed service they are providing to libraries!
Thanks so much for these!
