Update on Social Software in Libraries

I’m sure those of you who have ordered Social Software in Libraries are wondering when your books will be coming. Believe me, I’m more anxious than anyone to see the new and pristine version (see this post for background on the first printing snafu). I have been assured by John Bryans, Editor-in-Chief of Information Today Books, that the book should be done at the printer within the next week and should be available for shipping by late May. The book will be available sooner from Information Today than from Amazon.com, so if you just can’t wait to get your hands on it, you might want to go with Information Today.

Either way, I hope you find it useful. 🙂

  1. I am thinking that this one falls into the “Professional collection” category at work. Looks like a good book. I can wait.

I ordered the book a while ago from Amazon and just got this email today:
“Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we’ve
since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this
time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize
for the inconvenience we have caused you. We have cancelled this item from your order.” Does this mean they won’t be carrying it at all?

  3. Meredith, I got the same message from Amazon that Michele did. It’s unusual for Amazon to cancel an order — that usually indicates that the publisher has been unable to confirm a pub date. Good luck — I’ll order it when it becomes available. I hate to see you lose sales through Amazon cancellations, though.

  4. Message from a European lurker. I received the same order for the Rijksmuseum Research Library for which I ordered the book a while ago. Will order it, as you suggested, via Information Today.

  5. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’d asked Information Today to let Amazon know about the delay, but they assured me that it wasn’t necessary and wouldn’t be a problem. Please be assured that it WILL be available through Amazon.com in the very near future (probably a week or two) though you will be able to get it more quickly through Information Today as they will be receiving the book from the printers directly. Again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this caused you all.
