To the chickadees, blue jay and brilliant red cardinal I saw in the pine tree just outside my kitchen window as I made breakfast this morning, thank you. I have no idea why you’d want to be here in Vermont when the temperature this morning was well below zero, but thank you for choosing to stay. There is nothing like seeing life outside on a rather blustery day and hearing your happy twittering on a day when I woke up feeling kind of down (since Adam’s away on business). Thanks for keeping me company. You (and the bright sunny — but frigid — days we often get here in wintertime) make winter in Vermont tolerable.
P.S. I hope you enjoyed the birdseed I put out on the patio before I left for work. Hope those piggish squirrels didn’t get it all. I threw some peanuts out there for them too, but you know how they are.
Chickadees and cardinals love them some black-oil sunflower seeds. Unfortunately, so do the goldarn squirrels.
I dunno what blue jays eat at this time of year.
